El Capitan Troubleshooting

What I've found so far, which doesn't match up to user reports.

Wineskin is working just fine for me in El Capitan (Fresh install no changes), as long as I'm using the Mac Driver.

I get errors during wrapper creation and on launch about xkbcomp failing to find a dylib. This looks like a mistake on my part on the path its looking for. This always worked on older versions of OSX because it found it in the fallback path. This no longer works because of Apple's changes blanking out the fallback path. I'm going to work to get the paths fixed on many libraries and programs like this in there that are needed. Everywhere I cannot set a fallback path easily, I should be able to fix the actual path so the libraries are still found.

Any comments? others have said the Mac Driver didn't work for them, but I cannot get it to fail. I've tried several Wine versions back into 1.6.

Thanks, it fixed without "csrutil disable"d

You have to "Change Engined Used" once again right after refresh wrapper, though.

Doh123,

Okay, thank you for the update wrapper instructions. I didn't really know what that command really did.  Anyway I took a guess and did most of what that does I did manually. Then zipped the wrapped application, copied it over to my new El Cap install and gave it a try.

Worked like a charm!! One thing I did notice is that the application does not show in Recent items. And if you have a Recent Applications stack in your Dock it does not show in there either.

Anyway, thanks much!

doh123 I have the game Star Wars The Old Republic in a wine skin wrapper that I found online for the mac. When I go into the advanced tabs and try to update I get an error.

There is an error with the installation of your Master Wrapper.  Please update your Wrapper in Wineskin Winery (a manual install of a wrapper for Wineskin Winery will work too)

I do not know what to do. I do not have the master wrapper as this was created by someone else. The current version is 2.6.0 and the Engine is WS9Wine1.7.24D3DBoost.

I could use some help updating this wrapper or downloading a master wrapper.

Thanks.

The Master wrapper just means the main base wrapper you have installed with Wineskin Winery.

get Winery.  Download Wineskin 2.6.1, and download WS9Wine1.7.24D3DBoost inside of Winery.

Update the wrapper, and then 'change' the engine to the same engine, then it should work same as earlier versions of OS X.

Confirming that updating the wrapper and changing the engine afterward does indeed fix it for me, for both X11 and the Mac driver. Yay!

Hi

I have update to wineskin 2.6.1and the engine to ws9wine 1.7.51

Using a MC laptop - just upgraded to el Capitan. Really a novice and don't understand the lingo here.

Initialyy the Station Playlist program (VT Server) would not load.

After I downloaded the Wineskin update, it now runs, but I have two problems,

1. cannot navigate in the program to use the external mic (shows but  does not 'connect' to it)

2. (this issue was always there) the mouse pointer moves in & around the VT Server but when I select a line to move it, curser disappears - the item does move however)

Hope my layman's comment are understandable.

Tommy

Also I have update the wrapper...

The fix works perfectly, thx!

Thank you fixing the main issue. There is another one, thou, I think that is related to El Capitan.

I have had a file extension assoicated with my app in the past, so people can double click on the file and it will automatically open it in my app.

Now it only opens the command console window, which is actually unusable, it does not show anything.

If i use File -> Open within the app, it works just fine.

Thanks

Doh, you are wizard. Thanks :-)

I'm not sure on the file extension issues...  I make a new wrapper, and make it open notepad.exe.  I then add txt file extension.  Every txt file I open in Finder with the App seems to be working fine.

For everyone asking in this thread about very specific software issues, you are much better off starting a new thread, as they'll get lost in this thread.  This thread topic is specifically about what broke and wasn't working in El Capitan vs earlier versions of OS X.

If you have a wrapper that was working in OS X 10.10 and earlier, that died in 10.11 El Capitan, its on topic.  If its just something new your trying to do with El Capitan... well this isn't the spot.

Actually at this point You're better off starting a new thread about your topic so more people will see if no matter what problems you are having.

Hey Doh,

I was testing the 2.6.1 update by updating winery with 2.6.1 and then update one of the wrappers with the x11 issue selected instead of macdriver. Then when I run it, nothing happens, also with openening nothing happens. Then I updated again (was also the fix with the 10.7.5/10.8.2 bug) but also this gave no solution. Check the log below. Looks like the module part is going wrong. Can you look into it?

Thanks:

Paul

Hello,

I have updated Wineskin to the newest, but i still get: "The application X11 could not be opened." (I try to open Azuon).

I found recomendation here: http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-view_blog_post.php?postId=82(external link)

"Right click in the wrapper and select Open the first time you run it. "

Where I should do that? because i tried to click with right button on my azuon.app but there is no that kind option.

Paul:  After you update a wrapper to 2.6.1, you need to reinstall the engine, or you'll get those errors.  Just do a 'Change Engine' and it should work.

Nerijus: The error with X11 isn't the same error as that FAQ... but right click any App and you'll have an 'Open' option.  I'm not sure why X11 is failing to run for you though, perhaps you can do a Test Run and list the 2 log files?

The new 2.6.1 is working well on El Capitan over here - thanks very much for fixing it up!

  - Michael

Hi,

How can i do test run? Is there any tutorial?

It's in the manual. If you go in Wineskin.app and go to Advanced, on of the options at the bottom is to Test Run. After a test run is over it will prompt asking if you want to see the log files.

Working for me now. Had to re-install the engine as per your instructions but all good.

Thanks for your hard work.
