Wineskin Winery 1.5 update is out.  Minor changes really except whats noted below.

Also as a warning, know when Wineskin 2.5.5 is out soon, that it will be 10.6+ only... 10.5 support is being dropped.

This version of Wineskin Winery will still run on 10.5 and if you use manually installed items to get WS8 engines and wrappers 2.5.4, then it should still work.  The built in downloading will eventually move over to only 10.6 compatible stuff.  WS9 engines which will eventually start showing up will also be 10.6+ only.

List of changes...

  • Interface redesigned to be simpler and smaller
  • Search filter added for engine list
  • Search filter added for available engines drop down box
  • Warning message added if running on 10.5 about other Wineskin programs dropping 10.5 support.
  • Fixed Download Packages Manually button to go to the Wineskin download site instead of the old page that diverts to the home page.
  • Engine Builder screen updated slightly with correct info for Wineskin 2.5.5+
  • new Engine base available when Wineskin 2.5.5 is released to handle building Engines easier for people with any version of Xcode 3 or 4 installed.

Beta 2 is here...

Its the same as Beta1 other than a bug fix.

The bug fix is that the wrapper's quartz-wm will work now if the option is set to use the wrappers quartz-wm over the system's.

Wineskin update 2.5.5 beta test is here... I'd appreciate feedback and testing results.

Just download this... run it and it'll show up as the wrapper in Winery.  If you use "Update" for the wrapper in Winery it'll go back to 2.5.4.

See Beta2 download Wineskin 2.5.5 Beta 2

Main changes...

  • Wrappers no longer support running on Mac OS X 10.5 from Wineskin 2.5.5 and later.  OSX 10.5 is very little used, and most still using it are on PPC Macs that cannot use Wineskin anyways.
  • New X.org server build and related libraries, the latest available including a much updated Mesa build (for OpenGL)
  • New Installer Window added.  It describes more what is going on, and if you choose a EXE it works the same as before, but it also now has options to copy or move a folder inside the wrapper so you can use it to get in pre-installed programs or programs that do not install and just run.
  • New testing option added that will launch Terminal read to use Wine from the wrappers engine in a normal command line way.  This is for Wine specific testing and comparing and doesn't use anything in the wrapper besides the Wine build in the engine.  All usage is command line and the wineprefix is the default ~/.wine unless you change it.  If your using a stock engine this should be considered normal Wine usage that *should* be reportable at winehq.org.
  • There is now an option to use XQuartz instead of the build in WineskinX11.  Some features may not work right with it, but it will run things under XQuartz.app instead of its own icon.  This is disabled by default. This will ONLY try to use normal XQuartz installed to /opt/X11... not X11.app or Macports or whatever... may be buggy and go back to your default X11.app if XQuartz is missing, but could cause a lot of problems.
  • Default gray for windows made more neutral gray instead of Windows normal reddish gray to match OSX better.
  • Always Make Log Files option added in Wineskin.app so you do not have to only use Test Run to get them.
  • Custom EXE launchers should work right again to use multiple EXEs at once.
  • Custom EXEs should be less likely to crashing with some special characters in path names.

Sorry for the delay, but WS8Wine1.5.0 is now available in Wineskin Winery.

Wine 1.5.0 Release Notes

Published by doh123 on 2012-03-16

Wine 1.5.0 was released today, starting out a new development branch since 1.4 was released not long ago.

Before I get more messages about it, there will be a delay before an official WS8Wine1.5.0 engine is available.  I've recently just been offered a new job, and am in middle of moving.  Since I do all the builds, and my build machine is packed and I cannot get to it, I have no way until Tuesday or Wednesday (20th or 21st) to get the engine built.

Sorry for the delay, but hopefully I'll have a WS8Wine1.5.0 engine up next week.

Today Wine 1.4 was released.  This is now the current major release version, so I have put WS8Wine1.4 engine up as available and taken down all of the RC versions.

Crossover 11 was also released recently, which is based off of Wine 1.4.  I have also built an engine off that source called WS8WineCX11.0.0.

I'm sure there will be a Wine 1.4.1 and 1.4.2 and maybe even a third to fix minor bugs, but soon there the new development branch will be started with Wine 1.5.0, so start looking for Wine 1.5 engines as well.

Wine 1.4 release notes lists changes since last major release of Wine which was version 1.2.x.  These things were changed over time during the 1.3.x series, so these are not all changes since 1.3.37

For now you can get WS8Wine1.4 and WS8WineCX11.0.0 in Wineskin Winery like normal.

Wineskin 2.5.4 update is out!  You can get it in Wineskin Winery or use the normal Manual download option on the Downloads Page

I'll work on getting the Manual and FAQ updated.

The list of stuff!

  • new Icon and logo
  • updated WineskinX11 to xorg-server 1.11.99.902+patches
  • updated almost all supporting libraries to most current
  • CMD+H or Cmd+Opt+A will knock you out of fullscreen mode now.  Cmd+Opt+A will still toggle it back on.
  • File Associations should work correctly
  • Various error detection and handling improvements
  • Fixes to detecting where fonts are on system X11
  • Uses newest version quartz-wm on your system, unless its not found, then uses wrapper version.  This fixes many problems with decorated windows. (optional-default)
  • WineskinQuitScript script added in Menu Script folder to do a CMD+Q shutdown.  Lets software makers have a chance to put in commands and such to do before someone can just kill it with CMD+Q.
  • Wineskin.app Prompt on Quit option updated to tell Windows apps to shut down, so that the Windows app has a chance to prompt to save, etc... may not always work
  • CD Eject command added to top menubar by default.  Can help getting discs switched right for multi-disc game installs.
  • If you launch a wrapper that a different user is already using, it no longer causes problems, it just gives an error that it cannot be used by multiple users at the same time.
  • Default settings changed for copy/paste so it should work more reliably
  • Default Menu scripts have info on them on how to access and use Wine correctly, so you can launch other programs in Wine or whatever is needed.
  • Installer will only prompt to set an EXE if the currently set EXE is not found after installation
  • Engine base for Custom Engine builds updated to W2.5.4EngineBase and should work better now on all OSes and Xcode 3 or 4 (Xcode 4 is still limited to building 10.6+ compatible engines).  libxml and freetype problems should be fixed, so no more XQuartz install required for building.

Beta 2 wasn't up long...

changes from Beta 2

  • The lockfile made in /tmp to prevent multiple users from using the app at the same time now stores the user name of who locked it, so there won't ever be erroneous messages about it being in use if the lock file exists by the same user who made it in the first place.
  • Forcing system quartz-wm is default enabled like Beta 2, but optional in Wineskin.app now.
  • Winetricks is updated to the latest version

Please report problems ASAP, want to release this soon!

Wineskin 2.5.4 Beta 3 Installer Download

Published by doh123 on 2012-02-08

I have Beta 2 out, with a ton of changes... take a look.  It *should* be stable, but I'd rather put it up as a test for a while.  If all goes good, I'll switch it to release.

  • updated WineskinX11 to xorg-server 1.11.99.902+patches
  • updated all supporting libraries to most current
  • File Associations should work correctly
  • Various error detection and handling improvements
  • Fixes to detecting where fonts are on system X11
  • Uses newest version quartz-wm on your system, unless its not found, then uses wrapper version.  This fixes many problems with decorated windows.
  • WineskinQuitScript script added in Menu Script folder to do a CMD+Q shutdown.  Lets software makers have a chance to put in commands and such to do before someone can just kill it with CMD+Q.
  • Experimental WineskinLauncher using AppleScript added to git.  Its for work in testing how to find a way to get wrappers running on read-only volumes eventually, but is not in use.
  • Default Menu scripts have info on them on how to access and use Wine correctly, so you can launch other programs in Wine or whatever is needed.
  • Known Issue - Prompt on quit option will NOT work unless you delete the WineskinQuitScript

Download it at the link below and manually install it to use it.  Until it is out of beta, 2.5.3 will still be the version Wineskin Winery installs.  The Wrapper update button in Winery will revert back to 2.5.3 so don't push it unless that is what you want to do.

New Wine version out... new Wineskin engine out...

Wine 1.4-rc1 Release Notes

You should see it as available in Wineskin Winery.

There is some confusion since I guess making it 1.4 rc1 was a last minute thing.  You'll still see it listed in some places as 1.3.38... at least until things get fixed.

1.4 RC versions will be available until the next RC or release is out, then previous RC builds will dissappear.
